Song writers camp with Patric Sarin

Image
Students from music production have been collaborating with creative director Patric Sarin from Warner/HMC publishing. Sarin has been in the business for 17 years and believes in helping the students prepare for the outside world. The students are working in groups of three, co-writing songs together whilst Sarin mentors them giving them constructive feedback on how to improve. Groups of three were chosen to maximise the work flow in a team. Sarin wants to bridge the gap between school life and working life as much as possible to help better prepare the students for when they graduate. He himself is still developing his work set and wants to help the students get familiar to feedback, good or bad. Some students find it difficult after graduating to adapt to working life and the way things work at companies. In today’s age, artists must come out with great sounding singles for radio to make some of their living, compared to back in the day when artists would write albums. Sarin wants to...

#cmw2015

This is a short story of how a band called Wends survived the trip to Canadian Music Week. In May, the long anticipated trip to Toronto was finally at hand. After six months of recording and mixing our debut album, we rocked away our rust in Bar Loose, Helsinki, on first of May. Immediately after the gig ended, we started packing our instruments and toothbrushes, ready to get airborne and off to the 51st state of America... I mean, Canada. Luckily we had one day to rest in Helsinki before leaving. 3.5 The airplane was packed with movies, beer and anticipation. Over seven hours of fly-time to the first change of flights, included watching movies, sleeping, going around the plane a little handing out stickers to various people, and playing chess with the crappiest touch screen computers ever made (thanks to it’s own will I lost... Twice). First stop, JFK New York!  Our singer Vilppu Amazing 15 minutes of free Wi-Fi per device made it hard to keep Instagram posted, but we managed...

The Great Escape 2015

Image
Brighton is a city at the South Coast of England. It is known for its beautiful seafront and the amazing small alleys with pubs and small stores. Once a year Brighton turns into the Mecca of the European music scene. The Great Escape Festival – Europes leading music festival for new music – takes over the city and brings the hottest new acts from all over to the local stages. Also this year a group of TAMK students was allowed to be part of this great experience and travelled for five days to Great Britain.   OUR THE GREAT ESCAPE - BRITAIN DIARY WEDNESDAY, 13.05.2015 It is around noon when we leave our beloved Tampere direction Helsinki airport and early evening when we land in London/Gatwick and the country of the Queen and Fish & Chips. After we get our luggage (and yes, this time nothing got lost!), we continue our travelling to Brighton. Our hotel is located next to the seafront and offers a great view to the Sussex Coast. Also Peppiina - who was coming from Leeuwarden/Neth...

TAMPERE - WHY IT’S THE BEST CITY TO STUDY IN

Image
Tampere is situated north just two hours apart from the capital city, Helsinki. We have a population of 222,512 people, making us the third largest city in Finland. We are located between two lakes: Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, and we really love our green parks and lake scenery. The whole city is divided into two parts by the Tammerkoski rapids: the eastern and western sides, making it easy to navigate in the city. Studying in TAMK gives you the advantage of being in a big city with all the comforts of a small one. But don’t take our word for it, we asked some of the students already studying in TAMK why they feel Tampere is the best place to study in. And here are their answers! 1. Why is it so cool to study in Tampere? 2. Why did you choose Tampere? 3. Which places are the ones everyone needs to have seen in Tampere? 4. Any cool bars/clubs/pubs in Tampere you would recommend ? ANDREAS (GER, 11IMP) 1. Tampere is relatively small, therefore everything is pretty easy to be reached, and th...
